Hi Cindy,
You've asked a question experts have taken whole books to answer! Leadership is finding a way to get people working toward common goals and feeling that it is their idea to do so. Managing is organizing and creating the processes to enable them to meet the goals. Some people are good leader AND good managers, some are one or the other and a few people are neither.
Some leadership qualities are more easily taught than others. Leaders can learn the communication behaviors to build positive relationships, behave with empathy and hear out new ideas. What cannot be taught is intellectual bandwidth and the ability to look down the road over a long time span.
